I think a lot of people don’t question their personal care products, like hair care, skin care, oral care. Why should we? These are products that we put on our skin, so they are tested and safe for us and it is only out the skin on the outside of our body, so why the fuss? You, right, I was the same way and it was only when I joined Trivani and started to use their products that I got more interested in the subject. The Trivani health slideshow explaining the danger of these harmful ingredients in our products was not not main reason i joined trivani, so I just took their word for it and didn’t really bother with it. This is how I became aware of this, because I recently started with switching products. I do now use “DO NO HARM” Products from Trivani. So because you are involved and start to explain that the “regular” products contains harmful stuff  and that your baby products, like baby shampoo, baby oil, child’s toothpaste are also filled with harmful ingredients; I started to look up some of these chemicals from the ingredient labels.
Hair Care - Harmful Ingredients - Toxic
I found this great website: www.cosmeticsdatabase.com Here you just can enter you product name and find out how harmful your personal care products are.
So I went to my bathroom and picked up what is in mine and checked them in the database. I AM TOTALLY SHOCKED to find that ALL where Moderate to High Hazardous! This is just insane. Our personal care products are no good for us? How is it possible that manufacturers get away with this? Well I guess it has to do with the fact that we consumers don’t know better. Same like with the tobacco industry. First it was unknown that smoking caused cancer, now it looks like the personal care, hair care and skin care are even more dangerous and nothing really is done about it.
Here is my list of Shocking products I found in my bathroom. I just want to challenge you to do the same “What is in your????”Lander Baby Lotion with Aloe Vera & Vitamin E Moderate hazard (7 of 10)

Ingredients in this products are linked to

Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Fast Absorbing Hand CreamModerate hazard (7 of 10)

Vaseline Intensive Care Aloe Cool & Fresh, Light Moisturizing LotionModerate hazard (7 of 10)

Nivea for Men After Shave Balm, Sensitive High Hazard (9 of 10)

Listerine Antiseptic Mouthwash, Cool MintModerate Hazard (5 of 10)

Banana Boat Soothing After Sun Gel with Pure Aloe VeraModerate Hazard (6 of 10)

Colgate Total 12 Hour Multi-Protection Toothpaste plus Whitening GelModerate Hazard (6 of 10)

Right Guard Sport Anti-Perspirant Deodorant Clear Gel FreshModerate Hazard (6 of 10)

Isnt that shocking? The average hazard number for my products I used is about 7!!! And these are products you just pick off the shelves of the supermarket with out thinking, believing that you pick up good products for your body. And now to realize that this is not the case.  Now you have to walk with a complete list of all the harmfull ingredients and check the label of your shampoo, conditioner etc to see if they are safe. And that list is long, so it is not an easy task. A good thing is that there is a fix for some of the products we use, by switching to the Do No Harm products from Trivani.

So with the list in your hand and checking the labels, we see that some of our personal care products have warning labels (check your toothpaste and deodorant!) Even what is even worse that products for our young children are also full with these harmful ingredients, like Baby Shampoo , flavoured toothpaste for children. That too me is almost criminal, how can we allow these products to be on the market? Something somewhere got completely out of hand, because I know from my study as an Industrial Designer, we had to research and check every single scenario, to make sure your product is safe, so eating a nicely flavoured toothpaste by a child is a very likely scenario, as a matter of fact I heard in a short period two cases that a child got poisoned, so how does this fact is ignored and is this product allowed to enter the market?

Here some facts about the fluoride in our toothpaste:

The facts about fluoride toxicity are:

  • Early symptoms of acute fluoride toxicity (e.g. gastrointestinal pain, nausea, vomiting, headaches) can be produced at doses as low as 0.1 to 0.3 mg/kg.
  • Swallowing fluoride at the amount 5 mg/kg can be fatal.
  • Ingestion of as little as 1 percent of a tube of flavored children’s toothpaste can produce acute fluoride toxicity in a young child.

The most common symptoms of acute fluoride toxicity include:

  1. Nausea (97%),
  2. Vomiting (68%),
  3. Diarrhea (65%),
  4. Abdominal cramps (53%),
  5. Headaches (41%), and
  6. Burning sensations in the throat or chest (12%).

This table shows what the lethal doses is that would kill a child, when he eat toothpaste:

** Potentially fatal dose = 5 mg of fluoride per kg of bodyweight. This is “the minimum dose that could cause toxic signs and symptoms, including death, and that should trigger immediate therapeutic intervention and hospitalization… This does not mean that doses lower than 5.0 mg F/kg should be regarded as innocuous.” (SOURCE: Journal of Dental Research 1987; 66:1056-1060.)
*** The fluoride concentration in Colgate for Kids toothpaste is 1,100 ppm. At 130 grams of paste in the average tube, this equals 143 milligrams of fluoride.

And found some scary information:

61% of the children’s bath products tested for this report contained both formaldehyde and 1,4-dioxane.
17 out of 28 products tested (61%) contained both formaldehyde and 1,4-dioxane.
Popular products that contained both contaminants include: Johnson’s Baby Shampoo, Sesame Street Bubble Bath, Grins & Giggles Milk & Honey Baby Wash and Huggies Naturally Refreshing Cucumber & Green Tea Baby Wash.
23 out of 28 products tested (82%) contained formaldehyde, at levels ranging from 54 to 610 parts per million (ppm).

Another study:
The researchers found the presence of at least one phthalate metabolite in every urine sample, while 81% of the samples had measurable amounts of more than one phthalate. Infants exposed to multiple products tended to have the highest level of phthalate metabolites in their urine, suggesting that the products may be to blame. Since phthalates are used in many fragrances (and most baby products are heavily fragranced, often more so than skin-care products aimed at adults) it was natural to assume that this multiple fragrance exposure via topical application was the culprit. Interestingly, the lead researcher on the study had only poor advice for parents: use baby-care products less often or only if deemed medically necessary. How practical is that?
A Study regarding skin absorption
University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health, found less chemical exposure from drinking chlorine contaminated water than using it to wash the clothes or take a shower.

MSPH, report that: “Assessments of drinking water safety rely on the assumption that ingestion represents the principle route of exposure.” Skin penetration rates for solvents are remarkably high, and the stratum corneum is a less effective barrier to penetration than traditionally assumed. Based on published skin absorption rates, these 3 researchers used Fick’s Law to determine permeability constants for selected compounds. Then they calculated dose per kilogram for 9 different exposure situations and compared this to the oral dose per kilogram. They found that skin absorption contributed from 29 to 91 percent of the total dose, averaging 64 percent.

Inform all your friends and family about these harmful ingredients that are in our personal care products, and luckely there is a fix, just switch to the health products from trivani

My Cat Sleeping on my Keyboard

My Cat Sleeping on my Keyboard

When do we have to start to realize that it is time to take every day as it is and live it to its fullest. These few days have made me again reflect on life,. Several things happened one of the was that  my cat haven’t show up for 3 days, so I started to reflect on it. All of a sudden you start to realize how much you miss his present. This really hits me, because he was “in my face” all the time when I am on the computer and he would take over the keyboard, cause he would lay right on or next to it. Of course this would make working on the PC difficult. So I would put he on the floor and would go on with my work. Now when he is not around you start to miss him.

Why is it that when something isn’t there anymore, we miss it and starts to appreciate it again?

And with the birthday of my past away friend Romeo Chance, which  is today, it really made me think to start really enjoy life.  He  is still on my mind from time to time, because he made a difference in my life. One of his favorite saying was “When you dead you dead” He meant with that that you shouldn’t  sweat the small things in life, but enjoy life to the fullest, because when you dead, the world still will turn around and all the things you worried about are no longer relevant. He would often make that remark when we would grab something to eat. Because I am more health conscious and would consider to take a salad or something, he would always jokingly make the remark to just enjoy a good plate of food. In a sense he is completely right. Why live a life, which you dont enjoy to the fullest? If you really enjoy eating some “not so healthy” food, just do it, if that is what make you happy!

Another thing that happened this week is that I was in the middle of an Ego Clash. It is sad that people don’t realize that an Ego is very damaging to get to where you want. I most of the time is very damaging. And in the end does it in the end all really matter? To me I dont think so. Because your Ego will only be there as long as you can inflate it. The moment you not there, there will be no one to up keep it, as said when you dead you dead, people will forget about you and only the onces who you had made a difference in their lifes will remember you.

Therefor start enjoying life right now and dont worry about your Ego, but live in harmony with your surroundings. That by it self will make a big difference.

It is really time to start appreciating what we care about right now, you don’t know if it will be there still tomorrow.
