Isnt that shocking? The average hazard number for my products I used is about 7!!! And these are products you just pick off the shelves of the supermarket with out thinking, believing that you pick up good products for your body. And now to realize that this is not the case. Now you have to walk with a complete list of all the harmfull ingredients and check the label of your shampoo, conditioner etc to see if they are safe. And that list is long, so it is not an easy task. A good thing is that there is a fix for some of the products we use, by switching to the Do No Harm products from Trivani.
So with the list in your hand and checking the labels, we see that some of our personal care products have warning labels (check your toothpaste and deodorant!) Even what is even worse that products for our young children are also full with these harmful ingredients, like Baby Shampoo , flavoured toothpaste for children. That too me is almost criminal, how can we allow these products to be on the market? Something somewhere got completely out of hand, because I know from my study as an Industrial Designer, we had to research and check every single scenario, to make sure your product is safe, so eating a nicely flavoured toothpaste by a child is a very likely scenario, as a matter of fact I heard in a short period two cases that a child got poisoned, so how does this fact is ignored and is this product allowed to enter the market?
Here some facts about the fluoride in our toothpaste:
The facts about fluoride toxicity are:
- Early symptoms of acute fluoride toxicity (e.g. gastrointestinal pain, nausea, vomiting, headaches) can be produced at doses as low as 0.1 to 0.3 mg/kg.
- Swallowing fluoride at the amount 5 mg/kg can be fatal.
- Ingestion of as little as 1 percent of a tube of flavored children’s toothpaste can produce acute fluoride toxicity in a young child.
The most common symptoms of acute fluoride toxicity include:
- Nausea (97%),
- Vomiting (68%),
- Diarrhea (65%),
- Abdominal cramps (53%),
- Headaches (41%), and
- Burning sensations in the throat or chest (12%).
This table shows what the lethal doses is that would kill a child, when he eat toothpaste:

| *Average weight data obtained here ** Potentially fatal dose = 5 mg of fluoride per kg of bodyweight. This is “the minimum dose that could cause toxic signs and symptoms, including death, and that should trigger immediate therapeutic intervention and hospitalization… This does not mean that doses lower than 5.0 mg F/kg should be regarded as innocuous.” (SOURCE: Journal of Dental Research 1987; 66:1056-1060.) *** The fluoride concentration in Colgate for Kids toothpaste is 1,100 ppm. At 130 grams of paste in the average tube, this equals 143 milligrams of fluoride. |

And found some scary information:
61% of the children’s bath products tested for this report contained both formaldehyde and 1,4-dioxane.17 out of 28 products tested (61%) contained both formaldehyde and 1,4-dioxane.Popular products that contained both contaminants include: Johnson’s Baby Shampoo, Sesame Street Bubble Bath, Grins & Giggles Milk & Honey Baby Wash and Huggies Naturally Refreshing Cucumber & Green Tea Baby Wash.23 out of 28 products tested (82%) contained formaldehyde, at levels ranging from 54 to 610 parts per million (ppm).source: www.ewg.org
The researchers found the presence of at least one phthalate metabolite in every urine sample, while 81% of the samples had measurable amounts of more than one phthalate. Infants exposed to multiple products tended to have the highest level of phthalate metabolites in their urine, suggesting that the products may be to blame. Since phthalates are used in many fragrances (and most baby products are heavily fragranced, often more so than skin-care products aimed at adults) it was natural to assume that this multiple fragrance exposure via topical application was the culprit. Interestingly, the lead researcher on the study had only poor advice for parents: use baby-care products less often or only if deemed medically necessary. How practical is that?source: www.cosmeticscop.com
University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health, found less chemical exposure from drinking chlorine contaminated water than using it to wash the clothes or take a shower.MSPH, report that: “Assessments of drinking water safety rely on the assumption that ingestion represents the principle route of exposure.” Skin penetration rates for solvents are remarkably high, and the stratum corneum is a less effective barrier to penetration than traditionally assumed. Based on published skin absorption rates, these 3 researchers used Fick’s Law to determine permeability constants for selected compounds. Then they calculated dose per kilogram for 9 different exposure situations and compared this to the oral dose per kilogram. They found that skin absorption contributed from 29 to 91 percent of the total dose, averaging 64 percent.
Inform all your friends and family about these harmful ingredients that are in our personal care products, and luckely there is a fix, just switch to the health products from trivani
